Richard Martinez, D.Min., MSW

Compassionate care when you need it most

Finding time for therapy shouldn't be another source of stress. Richard understands that balancing work, family, and life's responsibilities can make it difficult to prioritize your mental health. That's why he offers evening and weekend appointments, making it easier for adults to access compassionate care without disrupting their daily responsibilities.

Richard believes healing begins by meeting people exactly where they are—with empathy, respect, and genuine curiosity about their unique story. He provides a welcoming, supportive environment where clients can explore life's challenges, discover their strengths, and develop practical strategies for lasting emotional wellness.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Science in Community and Human Services from Empire State University, a Master of Social Work from Texas State University, and a Doctor of Ministry in Christian Counseling from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He also holds an Advanced Certification as a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor. He is currently a social work supervisee.  His diverse educational background, government service, and years of professional experience provide him with a broad perspective that allows him to connect with individuals from many different walks of life.

Richard's therapeutic approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. He integrates evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and trauma-informed care to help clients navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Richard offers faith-based counseling for clients who wish to incorporate their Christian beliefs into therapy. As part of this approach, he utilizes the Arno Profile System (APS) to assess temperament and help clients gain deeper insight into their God-given strengths, relationship patterns, and areas for personal growth.

Richard works with adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Depression and mood concerns

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Grief and loss

  • Life transitions

  • Men's issues

  • Self-esteem and personal growth

  • Spiritual concerns and faith integration

  • Relationship challenges

  • Career and life balance

Richard believes that meaningful change happens when people feel heard, supported, and empowered to take intentional steps toward the life they want to live. His goal is to help clients build resilience, gain confidence, and create lasting change through a therapeutic relationship grounded in compassion, respect, and hope.

"Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity"
