Joseph (Alex) Smith, LCSW

Alex graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. He earned his Master's Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has clinical experience in the school setting and enjoys working with children, adolescents, and parents. Alex works from a client centered perspective and is passionate about meeting clients where they are. He utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, solution focused techniques, and Internal Family Systems principles. Additionally,  he is currently working towards obtaining his Trauma Focused CBT (Tf-CBT) certification. Alex believes the true power of therapeutic work is found in relationship and is excited to support his clients in achieving their goals.
